  2. This is a brief update to field management on recent decisions about
  3. operating systems and our Motorola 68K installed base.  As you will
  4. remember about a year ago we transferred responsibility of the Domain
  5. operating system to WCSO Software Technology Division, in order to
  6. insure our ability to provide continued support of that technology to
  7. our customers. With similar motivations we have decided to move the
  8. Motorola 68K versions of HP-UX to WCSO Software Technology Division as
  9. well.  In both cases this should be largely transparent to our
  10. customers and really represents an internal organizational decision.
  11.  
  12. What will this mean to your customers?
  13.  
  14. *  They can count on support of HP-UX and Domain on the Motorola 68K
  15.  
  16.    platforms through the year 2000.
  17.  
  18. *  Additional enhancements, bug fixes and features will largely be
  19.  
  20.    driven through support contract revenues.
  21.  
  22. *  HP is committed to provide interoperability between 68K HP-UX,
  23.  
  24.    Domain and future releases of PA-RISC HP-UX.
  25.  
  26. This also means that there will never be a better time for customers to
  27. begin their move to PA-RISC than now, when HP-UX is identical on both
  28. platforms and we have technical solutions and economic incentives for
  29. our customers to move to PA-RISC HP-UX.  As I write this we are rolling
  30. out a world wide campaign for the Open Migration Program (OMP) to help
  31. our customers understand what this means in detail, and to give them
  32. the incentives to begin their move now.

  34. In the mean time, we will continue to strive for balance between
  35. providing our customers long term stable environments, and making
  36. investments to stay competitive in the quite difficult workstation
  37. market.  Expect to see press, advertising, customer pieces and on-going
  38. activity demonstrating our commitment to our installed customer base.
  39. We recognize that these are the people who built this business.

  41. To this end HP-UX and Domain operating system support is available to
  42. our customers through the year 2000.  Additional information on support
